Grass Roots Brooklyn Mutual Aid Society

We are a group of established New Yorkers and recent immigrants building community together.  We share a weekly meal and English conversation as well as activities and events at Roots Cafe on 5th Avenue in the South Slope. Part of our mission is to help connect recent immigrants to organizations providing services including legal help, education, and housing. We provide occasional on site training, such as Know Your Rights, and Emotional Health, and accompany our immigrant friends to court as needed. Another main focus is to help connect young immigrants 18-20 with New Yorkers who are interested in becoming mentors or guardians.  We have a vibrant and supportive community of guardians and their mentees.  We are there for each other to answer questions, we do fun activities together, and support each other in each step of the way of guardianship.  We collaborate with other mutual aid societies and organizations, including The Door, ROCC, and WMW
