Our Story

Philanthropy Leaders inspires a unique approach to giving.

WHY WE EXIST

The mission of Philanthropy Leaders is to promote the right of every person, particularly children, to grow physically and intellectually in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment.  Working globally, we identify projects with measurable benefits and mobilize support from donors across borders. Our priority is to meet the needs of poor and disabled children and their families.

What We Do

Philanthropy Leaders brings together groups of donors with similar interests to support causes focusing on global family and children's issues. We organize projects on behalf of donors. We find implementing partners, conduct feasibility studies, advise in the design and management of projects and recruit funders as collaborators. Our role can vary from identifying and bringing together partners to actual project management. We can support foreign projects on behalf of U.S. donors who seek to provide their support taking advantage of our 501(c)(3) status.

Philanthropy Leaders now operates programs in China, Singapore and the United States. We look forward to expanding to other countries in the developing world.

Our (Brief) History

Philanthropy Leaders was founded in 2018 by Zhang Wei, an independent philanthropy advisor, at the suggestion of the China Children and Teenagers Fund (CCTF), one of the largest and oldest Chinese charities formed in 1981 during the "reform and opening up" of Chinese civil society. CCTF sought to create a new gateway to channel the increase in interest and philanthropic funds flowing to social welfare projects in China. However, they encouraged Philanthropy Leaders to embrace a broad mission to help projects with many partners, not exclusively CCTF, in many countries. Today, Philanthropy Leaders enjoys the encouragement of CCTF although the two are not formally affiliated.

We value compassion, respect, trust, fairness and equity.

Compassion

…for others expressed as a belief that citizen-to-citizen contact and understanding is as important as country-to-country diplomacy

Respect

…for the desire of people, from all cultures and of all backgrounds, to seek better lives for themselves and their families, improved relations with others who are different and to act as agents of their own destinies

Trust

…in and among our partners and in those we seek to help

Fairness and Equity

…with the belief that the chance to participate in the design and implementation of our programs should be available to all involved. The voice of our beneficiaries should be at least equal to that of funders.
